LATITUDE (55° 26' 08'' North) 2017
LATITUDE was a collaborative project exploring the cultural and social complexities of place through the development of a series of temporary site-specific sculptures and a filmwork. LATITUDE was an immersive project about identity within an era of upheaval regarding borders globally.
The project utilised creative processes of site-based enquiry to create a series of temporary sculptural forms that were submerged underwater in three cross-border regions.
The filmwork traced community displacement and socio-cultural dividing lines along three cross-border rivers the Blackwater, the Erne and the Foyle. The film was both layered and abstract, moving visually into these underwater terrains creating a dialogue 'above' and 'below' the waterline.
LATITUDE incorporated critically engaged reflection as part of the dissemination process placing it within the larger stream of contemporary practice nationally and internationally.
LATITUDE was a Making Great Art Work - Open Call 2016 award funded by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaìon. Making Great Art Work supports projects that are large in ambition, irrespective of physical, temporal, or quantitative scale, and engage with the public, as audience members or as participants.
